Celebrating the Freedom to Read In Honor of Banned Books Week, September 22-28

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Have you noticed any filming going on around campus and wondered: “What is going on???”

What’s going on is that Banned Books Week is coming up! Banned Books Week is an annual celebration of the freedom to read and a fight against the suppression of intellectual freedom. The 2013 celebration for Banned Books Week will be September 22-28 and we are counting down the days!

In preparation for the huge national literary event, we have asked folks across campus to select their favorite banned book and to read the first page on camera. Be on the lookout for the final video, which will be released during the big week.  Who knows – you may see your favorite professor on there, or hear your favorite book being read!

Beatriz Hardy reads Common Sense by Thomas Paine.

Martha Zimmerman reads Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

Do you have a favorite banned book? Check out the list – you’ll be amazed at what titles show up!
