The whole month of February is a celebration of African American history. On the official African American History Month website, you can find a list of each day of the month in which a person or event is of importance. Did you know that February 6th is the 50th anniversary of the signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act? This Act outlawed major forms of discrimination against racial, ethnic, national and religious minorities, and women. The website also gives excerpts about other events that have changed United States’ history forever. Although this website is full of useful information on the subject, Blackwell Library’s Federal Documents collection offers many resources to help you conduct even more research on Black History Month and Civil Rights.
